A great article by Condoleezza Rice, Director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford. She was the 66th Secretary of State.
It reminds us that in 1788 the US was founded with a great compromise.
That it was 1865 years before Northern soldiers, primarily white males, died in horrendous numbers, 3.6 million with today’s population, to end slavery.
That it was almost 1965 before all discrimination was made illegal through the Civil Rights Act.
Today, whatever racism that still may exist is bad and efforts should continue to minimize it BUT Condoleezza Rice is an example of how meritocracy has TODAY become the dominant factor in success.
Yes the US was imperfect.
The US has made dramatic progress.
Today the US is the most free, open meritocratic country in the world.
