Census 2025
Census Bureau released the mid-decade 2025 population estimates. It provides some indication of the trends in the populations of the States. And it is the population of the States that plays the IMPORTANT ROLE of allocating the number of US Representatives.
Looking at the change from 2020 to 2025 we see a shift from CA, NY, and IL to TX, FL and NC. It would be hard to claim that this is driven by weather as no State has as good of weather as CA. You might argue its due to lower taxes (most likely) or possibly even conservative policies.
What’s is interesting is the effect that the Biden immigration policies have. Biden claimed that he could not stop the significant illegal immigration without a change in law even though we now know that illegal immigration can be reduced without a change in the law.
What else might explain the Biden immigration policies? Current practice is to count illegal aliens for apportioning Representatives. This “distortive” effect of including illegal aliens provides a very large advantage to CA but at the same time it also seems to benefit TX and FL.
CONCLUSION
People are leaving some of the larger more Democrat States and moving South and Southwest.
